Word List
similar to, different from, in comparison with, compared to, whereas (showing contrast), while (showing contrast), on the other hand, unlike, both… and, neither… nor, just as… as, not as… as, resemble (look similar to), differ from, in the same way, by contrast, equally, likewise, in contrast to, the same as, a bit more than, slightly less than, far more than, considerably better, marginally worse, roughly equal, identical, distinct, comparable, superior to, inferior to.
Examples:
- Her approach is similar to mine, whereas his is completely different.
- This phone is slightly more expensive, but it has far more features.
- Unlike her brother, she prefers quiet evenings at home.
- The two proposals are roughly equal in cost, but this one is considerably faster.
Remember: «whereas» and «while» both introduce a contrast between two clauses in a single sentence, useful for comparing two facts formally without starting a new sentence.
